Nikau valley is nestled in the hills at Te Puapua, within the rohe of Ngati Pukeko. Next to Ohinemataroa, the river that flows to Whakatane.

Our family has been here since the early 1970’s.  Peter and I built our home here in the late 1990’s.

Since then… we’ve been held by this place, enabled to make many rich explorations into how people and place can nurture each other.

Our journey has been enriched by many amazing people who have collaborated with us and connected with the land.

We have come to see gardening as a deepening conversation with our eco-system. Questioning. Listening. Growing with our landscape. A livingscape.

I am a Mother, grandmother, a trained primary school teacher, Permaculture practitioner, and co-director of Blue Duck Design Ltd (est. 2010). I have studied Organic horticulture and grow a lot of our family’s food in our gardens.

I believe people are creators and designers. To be truly alive we must live with this full potential. A potential we all carry inside and must nurture like the rarest seed –insourcing and nurturing our creative being.

Every day is an opportunity to step into that reality and move into a comfortable richness. Just Being, within the everyday.

I enjoy exploring ways of understanding that provoke aliveness and process. That deepen our connection to the living systems we are held within.
